Hey guys hope everybody is well and keeping safe. I want to apologise for being quite absent since my last post in April. You may or may not know, I’ve been in the lab recently (my room) writing my next travel adventure book. I wanted to give you all an update on the progress of the book.
I’m delighted to announce that the 2nd draft is fully complete and as suspected there has been a switch in the story from what was originally planned. The travel adventure book has taken on It’s own life through the 2nd draft and makes for a much more exciting overall story for you all to enjoy.
If you were not aware already, the original plan was to write a book of independent short stories of just my mishaps and things generally going wrong through my decade long traveling life. However as is the case with my traveling life; plans never work out and during the 2nd draft more travel adventures, and different situations got involved and a new overarching story revealed itself organically.
This new overarching story which leaves breadcrumbs through the initial short stories takes you further in both internally and externally. It provides you an insight into why and how I kept the nomadic life going for so long. The book shows the many internal battles and conflicts I’ve endured, the changes in perception as well as specifically selected events, and moments that have shaped my traveling life.
In a nutshell the book is full of travel adventures, misadventures, mishaps, and bad decisions which I am hopeful the book will take you on a rollacoaster journey. One full of emotions from laughter to being gobsmacked at some of the stories and really get a feel what long-term traveling life is really like. All the stories included are real events, and as is the case for many travel books and memoirs, people names have been changed.
The writing process for the travel adventure and misadventure book
I have to be honest, diving deep into memories, and talking with old travel friends recounting the stories made the writing process a lot of fun. It’s funny just how many memories had been forgotten until searching for them.
Its been great to remind myself of the internal journey I’ve been on along the way and the education I’ve never stopped gaining from. However there have also been some memories and doors opened that I had looked to forget about, but I didn’t want to just leave them out. There are some dark holes ventured into.
Most of the planning had taken shape before the 1st draft. While writing the 2nd draft the book breathed it’s own life. The natural story just came out, some stories from the 1st draft were taken out, others were changed, and new ones appeared for the story to flow smoother.
The actual process of writing the travel adventures and misadventures book is quite simple, being stuck at home through Covid, I’ve not had the best scenery to draw inspiration through, just a copious amount of coffee and reliving the events through my mind and getting them onto the page.
Titles for the stories
The next blog post will contain the options I’m playing around with for the book title, I’ve not been able to find the right one just yet. However all the individual stories in the book have titles which I would love to share with you and get your opinions on. Feel free to drop me a comment at the end of the post and let me know what you think of the titles for the individual stories.
Intro – Why, just why?
- My weak will power
- Anxiety and self-consciousness attacks
- Please don’t kill us
- What goes up must come down…with a crash!
- Dickhead, we are lost again!
- These feet are not made for…
- Sticking a middle finger up to life
- Conned, scammed & haggled on the first day
- Finally away from the chaos…Or was it?
- Feeling the history
- Trying to conquer a fear
- I should know better than to…
- Sometimes I should keep my mouth shut!
- It could only happen to me!
- Adrenaline spiked: Superman!
- Crazy 24 hours
- Bored of traveling need a spark
- End of the road
- Well that didn’t last long
- Whoa, what is this?
- Road trip from hell
- Hidden Paradise
- It just had to happen
- So what am I doing here then?
- Oh so this was your plan!
- This journey is just beginning
The travel adventures and misadventures span all over the world, from the backpacker centric East coast of Australia, villages in Thailand, deep in jungles of South America, deserts of North Africa to hidden local coves in Portugal. Covering a 10 year span wasn’t easy and so many stories and situations had to be left out, which has been the hardest part of the whole process.
As mentioned above, let me know what you think of the titles. Are they enticing? Do they give you a little glimpse into the stories? Or any you find are too drab?
Ideas for additions with the travel adventures and misadventures book.
I wanted to also get your opinions on potential additions to give out for FREE when the book is released.
I was thinking of creating a photo album relating to each story included in the book, would that be a preference to just adding pictures into the book?
If you have any other suggestions on what to add as an addition I’m happy to hear what you think.
Next blog post
The next post will be released in the coming days and will again be looking for your participation, as it will include suggestions for the actual book title and a few options on the book blurb and description which of course I would love to hear your thoughts on.
Until then, I hope you’ve enjoyed this little insight into the next book. If you would like to keep informed on future updates, potential release dates, and pre-launch info you can join my monthly newsletter and keep up to date with it all.
