Exciting Opportunity: Help With 6 Travel Book Blurb Options

Heya guys, this travel book blurb post is the latest update on the progress of my travel adventures and misadventures book.

Before I got started on the 3^rd draft of the new book I wanted to have the book title (which I’ll talk about in the next post) and the travel book blurb sorted out. However that is proving to be a little more difficult than writing the actual book. The 3rd draft has already started.

I will be honest, since I’ve attempted to get to the right blurb (back of book description). My head has been in a spin on more than a few occasions (All the time). The process has been all over the place.

To begin with, unlike for the first book, ‘You, Yourself & the World‘ I just didn’t have a clue where to start. It’s much harder trying to summarise and show off a travel memoir/ short stories book spanning nearly a decade which creates the right amount of curiosity, intrigue and appetite than a long-term solo travel help book.

However after a lot of brain storming, some research (looking at other Authors travel book blurbs) and some weaving of words I started to come up with some of my own. I struggled to write the first one, but then it started to pour out.

Some were garbage, some overtold the story, some undersold the story. My message just wasn’t getting out. But as is the case with most things after a few attempts I started to get the flow of what was needed to be shown.

In the end I came up with 12 different blurbs but followed a similar theme.

Your help with choosing the travel book blurb

With the 12 blurbs written out, I left them for a week, let them marinate a little, before tackling them once more.

Just like with writing a blog post, the adventure and misadventures travel book itself or any copy, there needed to be a few more drafts. I have managed to whittle them down to 6 options.

A blurb is meant to contain

A hook
Introduction to Main Character/narrator (In this case me)
Introduction to main conflict/intrigue of the book
Insight/teaser of what to expect in the book without giving too much away
A call to action – why they should read/buy it
