New travel book blurb options feature pic - forever roaming the world

Heya guys, this travel book blurb post is the latest update on the progress of my travel adventures and misadventures book.

Before I got started on the 3rd draft of the new book I wanted to have the book title (which I’ll talk about in the next post) and the travel book blurb sorted out. However that is proving to be a little more difficult than writing the actual book. The 3rd draft has already started.

I will be honest, since I’ve attempted to get to the right blurb (back of book description). My head has been in a spin on more than a few occasions (All the time). The process has been all over the place.

To begin with, unlike for the first book, ‘You, Yourself & the World‘ I just didn’t have a clue where to start. It’s much harder trying to summarise and show off a travel memoir/ short stories book spanning nearly a decade which creates the right amount of curiosity, intrigue and appetite than a long-term solo travel help book.

However after a lot of brain storming, some research (looking at other Authors travel book blurbs) and some weaving of words I started to come up with some of my own. I struggled to write the first one, but then it started to pour out.

Some were garbage, some overtold the story, some undersold the story. My message just wasn’t getting out. But as is the case with most things after a few attempts I started to get the flow of what was needed to be shown.

In the end I came up with 12 different blurbs but followed a similar theme.

Your help with choosing the travel book blurb

With the 12 blurbs written out, I left them for a week, let them marinate a little, before tackling them once more.

Just like with writing a blog post, the adventure and misadventures travel book itself or any copy, there needed to be a few more drafts. I have managed to whittle them down to 6 options.

And, here’s where I’d love your help and opinions. You can find all 6 versions laid out below.

It would be amazing if you could have a look through them and let me know which option sticks out the most for you.

Before you get stuck in, here’s some ……on what book blurbs should contain:

A blurb is meant to contain

  • A hook
  • Introduction to Main Character/narrator (In this case me)
  • Introduction to main conflict/intrigue of the book
  • Insight/teaser of what to expect in the book without giving too much away
  • A call to action – why they should read/buy it

Can you see any of the above in these blurbs? You can either leave a comment in the comments section or get in touch through twitter or email me [email protected]

(best blurbs are between 150-200 words, I’ve managed to condense them all from 270-300 words to 200 and under)

What even is a nomadic journey without a few misadventures?

For British traveler, Amit, his near decade long journey from naïve backpacker to experienced nomad has been as adrenaline spiked and fearful as careering around a death trap Bolivian mountain. The wheels have come off many times, but against all odds the ride continued!

What was meant to be a one year backpacking trip around Australia somehow turned into a decade of wild adventures, mishaps, discovery, conflicts, and setbacks around the world.

This inspirational true story of determination, survival, and pure lust of chasing the dream will have you in hysterics one moment and shocked another.

Join him in surviving a kamikaze pilot in Australia, embracing cultures, dealing with disasters in Southeast Asia, misadventures in Mexican jungles, threats of jail, fear of kidnapping in South America and so much more.

A misadventure is never far behind so what really pushes him to continue this nomadic life especially when life loves to mess with him so much?

travel book blurb Option 2

“What do you mean It’s just gone missing?…How?…How do you lose a freaking train?

It’s not a set of keys!”

It was Just another day in the traveling life of this British nomad.

Life didn’t care if Amit escaped the shackles of his mundane reality to live out a dream of exploring the world. It wasn’t that kind to him

A train going missing was just another obstacle to overcome. His whole traveling life was riddled in bad luck, mistakes, and mishaps. A misadventure was never far behind an adventure. It was just the way things were, take the rough with the smooth, figure it out and move on.

Little did he know at the time all the bumps, mishaps, and misadventures contributed towards a bigger story in his life as much as the adventures, highs and influential people he met. It was only after nearly a decade of roaming the world did he realise why people always called him lucky when he thought the opposite.

Laugh and be shocked through this page turning travel memoir as he relieves selected travel stories, adventures, and misadventures from his rollacoaster traveling life.

It was a sign of things to come, yet somehow he embarked on a journey nobody could imagine. Was he lucky or unlucky? – It was hard to tell at times.

Along with all the wild adventures, once in a lifetimes experiences and incredible highs came the inevitable lows, misadventures, and forgetful experiences. travel book blurb Option 4

An unrealistic fantasy against all the odds turned to normal life – But how?

As a child, a teenager, even a young adult, Amit escaped his horrible reality by fantasising of roaming the world, letting his wild imagination run wild, away from a life of sob stories. Travel obsessed without the knowhow or means to leave home.

That was until his mid 20’s when a fire raged from within, while others planned adulthood, he escaped the shackles of reality and home life in England. Australia beckoned.

Somehow one year turned into two, although a promise was broken, when it seemed the dream was over – It was in fact just the beginning.

The new reality was a fantasy playground of adventures, friendships, discovery, and wander for nearly a decade. But he didn’t have it all his way, life, and demons that plagued his whole life would rear their ugly heads and throw formidable obstacles.

Determination kept him going but was he really searching for?

Find out in this page turning travel memoir which will pull your emotions in all directions from hysterics to shock.

travel book blurb Option 5

“You’ll be back in a couple of weeks, guaranteed. With your luck you probably won’t even get there.”

Nobody including himself thought it would last this long – but it did!

From the moment British backpacker Amit landed in Australia in 2010, life flipped upside down and a life of adventure, discovery and mental freedom began.

Was it all a smooth journey?

No, of course not.

It was more like careering about a death trap Bolivian mountain; adrenaline spiked but full of fear. Life loved nothing more than to mess with him, throw obstacles in the way, and that’s without mentioning his tangled brain.

Yet somehow, against the odds it kept going. There was never a dull moment, as he turned from naïve backpacker to experienced nomad. from surviving a kamikaze pilot in Australia, embracing cultures, dealing with disasters in Southeast Asia, misadventures in Mexican jungles, threats of jail, fear of kidnapping in South America and so much more…

Join him as he fumbles from country to country, adventure to misadventure, and countless internal journeys in this incredible yet bumpy journey which will have you in hysterics one moment and shocked another.

travel book blurb Option 6

Most normal people travel with a plan…But then there are those who intend of having one but no matter what they just go up in smoke!

One of those people is Amit, a British backpacker, who left England with an iron clad plan he was determined to stick to. Within hours of landing in Australia in 2010, that plan was a distant memory.

Yet, somehow against the odds, even with life loving nothing more than to mess with him, a one year backpacking trip turned into a near decade of fumbling from one country to another, continent to continent.

How though? How did a guy who had as many misadventures, mishaps and bad luck as the adventures and incredible highs roam the world for so long?
